Diamond + Schmitt
The $25 million, 56,000 square foot Learning Library was designed by Diamond + Schmitt Architects Inc., one of the top library architecture firms in North America.  Established in 1975, the firm has achieved national and international recognition for innovative design excellence and a broad range of completed projects delivered with responsible project management and budget control. Diamond + Schmitt have received over 100 regional, national and international awards for design, including six Governor General’s Awards for architecture.

LEED Design
The new Learning Library has been designed to fulfil the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.  The Learning Library will embrace a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

The Learning Library will feature:

  • A Learning Commons that will accommodate 220 students in collaborative work rooms, group instruction rooms, and an adaptive technology area
  • 2 group instruction rooms, 8 collaboration/group work rooms, 83 individual study places
  • A total of 460 study spaces in the Learning Commons
  • A writing and academic skills program in the Learning Commons
  • A teaching and learning centre within the Learning Commons
  • An information technology support desk
  • Research archives and expanded print collections
