The Learning Library Campaign is not about bricks and mortar; it’s about fundamentally shifting education models to reflect the rapid changes that are occurring in how the world manages and exchanges information. The current library facilities devote approximately 25,000 square feet to library and information resources – not nearly enough for two expanding institutions.
Nipissing and Canadore collectively support the teaching of 168 applied and academic disciplines to nearly 12,000 students. By comparison, similar sized institutions offer two to three times the amount of library space per student.
The current facility was designed in a different age and has long since outgrown its use and effectiveness. Not only is it lacking in space for students, but it can not support the technology and spatial needs required for modern education or the numerous students at Nipissing and Canadore’s satellite and distance learning centres.
The Learning Library will strengthen the personalized experience that both Canadore and Nipissing are committed to providing their students. This $25 million, 56,000 square foot facility is imperative to the future of our students, and to the continued growth, prosperity, and success of this region.
Nipissing University consistently scores high rankings in annual surveys by Macleans Magazine and The Globe and Mail with the one consistently low score being the existing library. The new Learning Library will be an essential addition to the campus lifestyle of both the university and the college, and will effectively place both institutions near the top of their respected peer groups. |
